Seventh Generation has been working to mobilize support
for updating our nation's toxic chemical law, and we continue to expect that a bill will be introduced soon to reform the 34 year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). One of the most urgently needed reforms is to take action on Persistent and Bioaccumulative Toxins, or PBTs, which are long lasting and build up in the food chain. PBTs such as lead, mercury, PCBs, BPA (which has been in the news so much recently), and brominated fire retardants can build up in our bodies, have been found in human breast milk, and are linked to a wide range of serious health problems. But even before the bill is introduced, the chemical industry is aggressively lobbying Congress to spend more time "studying" PBTs rather than taking quick action based on what we already know. Tell Congress that you want quick, strong action on the chemicals of greatest concern by clicking on this link to one of our partners, the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition
. We thank you for your support!
