SEVENTH GENERATION PRODUCT CLAIMS
Our product claims demonstrate our dedication to putting people and planet at the heart of everything we do.
Fragrance Free / 0% Fragrances / No Fragrances
Seventh Generation offers home care, baby care, and personal care products that are made without fragrances with the sensitive skin individual in mind. We offer fragrance-free products so you can make the choice for yourself not to use products that contain fragrance ingredients that may cause skin irritation or sensitization.
That's why we have a line of fragrance free products that do not intentionally contain any ingredients for the purpose of adding a scent or masking an odor. Though a product may still have a slight smell it is only truly fragrance free in our eyes if it is free of both intentionally added fragrance ingredients and masking agents.
By masking an odor, we mean that we don't use ingredients called "masking or neutralizing agents" to cover up the inherent smell of the non-fragrance ingredients within a product.
Not only do we formulate these products without fragrance ingredients, but we also test them in a clinical setting with people who also identify as having sensitive skin. We work with these individuals to measure the potential of skin irritation and sensitization when using our product.
Our products that are considered Hypoallergenic and/or Made for Sensitive Skin have passed clinical tests and are formulated without fragrance ingredients. As with all products, always use as directed.
At Seventh Generation, we formulate products while considering the impact of their existence on the next seven generations. Just like the many things in our lives that are derived from petroleum sources, ingredients in the cleaning products are also often derived from petroleum sources. Because we believe that the world should decrease its reliance on the use of fossil fuels, we strive to use ingredients derived from plants rather than petroleum whenever possible.
We even third party test and certify our products through the USDA Biopreferred Program so we can be sure that you know just how much of those product's ingredients come from renewable plant sources (renewable carbon) instead of non-renewable petroleum sources (fossil carbon).
We believe that consumers have a right to know what's in the products that they buy and use around their home and families.
This is why we voluntarily list our ingredients right on the label so you can read for yourself what is in the product at the moment of purchase.
Currently in the United States there is no law that requires the manufacture of cleaning products to list a product's ingredients on the label. As a result, most cleaning products do not have ingredients liston on the product itself.
We list our ingredients according to the FDA Cosmetic Labeling Standard. The ingredients are listed using the International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredient (NCI), which is an internationally accepted way to name the ingredients in cosmetic products.
Products with Methylisothiazolinone ("MIT") and/or Benzisothiazonlinone ("BIT")
Some Seventh Generation Products contain Methylisonthiazolinone ("MIT") and/or Benzisothiazolinone ("BIT") as preservatives to keep the product stable and free of microbial contamination over its shelf life. Although these products have been evaluated to be hypoallergenic and/or Made for Sensitive Skin, it does not mean that a product will not cause any allergic reaction or irritation in any person, and that a small percentage of individuals may have some form of allergic reaction or irritation to MIT or BIT. Always use as directed.
