Sensitive Skin and Laundry Detergent
Submitted by erikxkaren on Thu, Apr. 24, 2008
I have used fragrance free tide since my son was born. He has excema, very dry and sensitive skin! If I switch to seventh generation, I am afraid he will have a reaction. Does anyone else have a baby who has excema and is using this product???

I've had eczema since I was a baby and several decades later I still suffer. However, after in depth research, I found that many people who suffer with eczema have a wheat sensitivity and avoiding wheat reduces the problem considerably. Check out food sensitivities - I read about the wheat in a magazine and also in some excellent books on nutrition. I use white vinegar as a fabric softener and fragrance free laundry soap.
I use 7th generation free and clear and find it to be good for clothes/non-irritating for sensitive skin (adult, kid and baby). Don't know about eczema specifically. However, 7th Generation free and clear is NOT good for cloth diapers. It contains softeners that coat the cloth wraps and wet bags causing them to smell. It got something like 2 or 3 out of 5 on a website that rates detergents effectiveness for cloth diapers. I now use "Rockin' Green Detergent" (unscented) for cloth diapers.
Hello. I have a book for you. My five year old suffers/ suffered with terrible allergies. I found this book called "Green up your Clean-up". The author is a "green" mom whose son had these same problems. Answers to everything. Go to Amazon and invest. I have shared this with many allergy sufferers. With or without children. Good Luck. Please please please consider this!!!
we use charlies laundry soap for everything at our house now- i havent tried the 7th gen but charlie's is specifically rec'd for the whirlpool duets (which we have) and cloth diapers (which we use)
I have three children, all of whom have had severe eczema at some point in their lives. They, as well as my husband and I, still have very sensitive skin. I started using natural products such as Seventh Generation and California Baby a few months ago. I have been very satisfied with the effectiveness of these products. I have never been able to use fabric softener or scented products, but I am now using Seventh Generation Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender Detergent and Fabric Softener. The fragrance is very mild and doesn't really stay in the fabric. If I need a little extra help with stains, I just add some Borax to the load. Seventh Generation also has a Free and Clear product line. Check out Diapers.com for a large selection of natural baby products. If you make the change, I think you'll be surprised what a difference it makes.
