My son has had a severe skin reaction to this detergent. I was so surprised as I thought I was switching to a product that would be better for my children than the "mainstream" detergents with high levels of chemicals. When I checked the ingredients of this detergent I was surprised to find almond oil. Although my son does not have a known allergy to tree nuts, since he hasn't had much exposure in his young life it's possible that he is sensitive and we just don't know about it yet. It seems like Seventh Generation should clearly label this potential allergen for those who are sensitive and/or highly allergic to almonds. I'm not sure if I'll try the Free and Clear version of this detergent, but I really want to make a switch to a non-chemically laden product. So I'll keep searching for a natural product that won't cause my son to break out into itchy blotches and hives.
Love this detergent, smells clean, works excellently, and doesn't have all those nasty dyes in it. Also love the powdered Citrus version, both get our clothes really clean and fresh in our HE front loader.
I have severe severe skin allergies that prohibit me from using most laundry products on the market. I am also a "green" mom, and buy all earth friendly products. The challenge of finding a skin friendly, earth conscious product seemed daunting. My little one and I were in the laundry aisle of the store, and she said "worrrax" which is toddler speak for Lorax. She pointed at the 7th gen bottle, and I picked it up, and decided to give it a try. It has worked wonderfully, I have a mechanic husband, and it takes care of all of the filth he contracts while working. I sometimes presoak the shirts in the detergent for a half hour for tough stains like grease. My skin is irritant free, and I feel good knowing I am not dumping horrid chemicals into the water systems.
we love it. we just switched over to almost every product you make. My 12 yr old daughter has very high allergy to metals, particularly to Cobalt. Dermatologist gave us a list of products available that are free of the metal, and everything you make is on the list of safe things to use. It cleans and works well and my daughters allergies are at bay! however i really could use some coupons if you can send me any!!!!
Comparing all fragrances of Seventh Generation Laundry Detergents and Fabric Softeners to GAIN and WISK and other major brands, Seventh Generation offers a far better value for the price.
My mother used to use GAIN laundry chemicals to wash our clothes. Although she suffered no ill effects, I broke out in a red, angry, itchy rash. The washer also smelled terrible and required more frequent cleaning, including unscrewing the bolt from the agitator and disassembling that to scrub off the encrustations. That did not cause the dirty, chemical smell to go away in spite of GAIN's blatantly overpowering fragrance chemicals.
When we switched to using Seventh Generation or other all-natural, plant-derived laundry cleaners and softeners, the improvement was dramatic. My rashes and itching rapidly improved. The washer did not smell as bad and does not require cleaning as frequently. I could also use the Seventh Generation scented laundry products with no allergic reactions.
Because other all-natural cleaning products are either not available or are too costly to afford, we now use Seventh Generation cleaning products due to affordability and plant-derived scents. Besides, dollar for dollar, Seventh Generation cleans clothes as well or better than other store-bought brands at a comparable price. My rating = 5/5 for price, value, health, and usability.
Sincerely,
Richard C. August
