We create effective household and personal care products that help you care for the health of your family, your home, and our planet.
Our diapers are made of chlorine free wood pulp fluff, sodium polyacrylate (also referred to as SAP or absorbent gel), polyolefin nonwoven fabric, adhesives, polyolefin film, synthetic rubber elastic strands.
The color of disposable diapers is typically achieved through the addition of color pigments to their inner and outer cover materials. This is also true for Seventh Generation diapers. While most designs on the market use pigments that result in a white color, we use a small amount of blended color pigments to impart a tan color to our diapers. The blend is proprietary to the supplier of the pigment. To the best of our knowledge, there are no known toxicity issues associated with the use of these pigments in our diapers. Without the addition of color pigments, these materials would be colorless, much like a plastic milk jug. We use brown pigments to help distinguish Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Diapers from others in the marketplace that are bleached with chlorine-containing substances.
All disposable diapers, including Seventh Generation’s, rely on man-made materials to deliver the high-level performance that parents expect of modern diapers. These materials are mostly petroleum-derived and are not renewable, which adversely impacts the environmental footprint associated with these products. At Seventh Generation, we are pleased to offer an alternative that is not bleached with chemicals containing chlorine, and are working hard to further improve the sustainability of our diaper products.
About Chlorine
The wood pulp used in our diapers has not been processed with chemicals containing chlorine. This prevents dangerous chlorinated toxins from being released into the environment through the pulp production process.
I was given just about every brand of diaper as gifts and it seems the 7th-Gen diapers run a little wider and a little longer than most other brands, which means you get a little longer out of them and don't have those few leftovers of a smaller size as you move up. The leak guard is definitely better -- I couldn't even explain what the design difference is, but it holds in that "special baby poop" better. While my choice for 7th-Gen is based on the environmental and health benefits and of course I wish everyone would get on board, selfishly the unbleached off-white color is pretty helpful at daycare. I always know which stack of diapers is hers so when she's getting low, I can see (sticking out the back of shorts and onesies) for sure they aren't using hers on any other kid and aren't using anyone else's on her, etc. Benefits you don't think about, but definitely come with a different color diaper. The off-white tone also just looks better than the stark white "underwear-showing" look of regular bleached diapers. Add all this to the known environmental and health benefits and you can't lose... now, where are some coupons and why won't my grocery store carry anything except size 3 & 4?
Love love love! These diapers work great. They fit my baby really well. I especially love the stretchy tabs which help the diaper to be snug but comfortable around the waist.
Previous to the change to the Lorax design, I would have given this product a better rating. For some reason, when Seventh Generation changed the design to the Lorax theme, the tabs became smaller and leaks became a problem. I like that the diapers are chlorine free and don't irritate baby's skin, but dislike having to change sheets and jammies in the middle of the night due to the frequent leaks. I'm also disappointed that Seventh Generation no longer offers coupons for their products.
We love these diapers. We cloth diapered for awhile when our daughter was an infant, and always used these for trips or laundry day. Now, for a variety of reasons, we are out of the cloth diaper habit and using these full-time. We really like these diapers and feel they are they next best thing to cloth. She doesn't get diaper rash, the diapers don't leak, and although we feel guilty about the trash we are creating, at least we are not dumping all those chemicals from your average diaper into the landfill (and also our daughter isn't being exposed to these chemicals daily!!!)
We really love these diapers and can't recommend them highly enough. I would recommend doing a subscribe & save through amazon -- great prices and you will always have a supply!
My oldest, who is 7 now, always had the worst diaper rash. My pediatrician kept telling me that the diapers I was using weren't causing my baby's diaper rash. She said, "Chlorine free sounds like a gimmick to me." When my second was born, I listened to my mommy instincts and switched anyway. Guess what! No more diaper rash. Now with our third child, we're using Seventh Generation from the get-go. The new fit is definitely an improvement...and did I see something about an overnight diaper from 7Gen? It's about time!
