Over the last six months, we at Seventh Generation worked hard to get the Child Safe Products Act (CSPA) and related county bills passed in New York State. Thanks to the noise and energy our supporters helped to generate, legislation has been successfully passed into law in Westchester and Suffolk Counties, and legislation was recently introduced in New York City.
Unfortunately, due to the entrenched political interests of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and some of our elected officials, the statewide bill did not pass this year.
But we will not give up – there is hope both in terms of passage next year in Albany, and in developments on the federal level with the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Bipartisan leaders in the U.S. Senate and House are committed to updating TSCA, and we are working with all of them to ensure true reform that provides families all across the country with strong protections from toxins. In the coming weeks, we will ask our supporters to join us in urging them to finish the job and do it right – be on the lookout for ways you can make your voice heard!
We are grateful to have so many families, advocates, elected officials and organizations around the nation join us in the fight to remove toxins from kids’ toys, from New York State to California to Wisconsin. This is a national issue for moms, dads and families everywhere, and our fight will continue onward in many different and new ways. We will continue to keep everyone updated on our future plans to keep toxins away from kids across the state and the country – and we hope you all will continue to work alongside Seventh Generation to protect our kids for generations to come.
