Washing cloth napkins in dishwasher?

I've yet to successfully transition fully from paper to cloth napkins, in part because I don't do laundry often enough to wash soiled napkins frequently. So they end up sitting around and getting gross. Here's a zany idea --- could I just rinse my cloth napkins and throw them in the dishwasher each night? (Then find a place in the kitchen to air dry.) Has anybody tried this?

suggestion?

This is just a suggestion, but have you tried to throw your cloth napkins in with your towels/sheets/whites? That's what we do. Since we wash all of those items in hot, the napkins get clean, and don't have to sit around for more than a few days without being washed. We have about two dozen cloth napkins (just for reference). Not sure if that will help, but just a thought!

test

I have tested it out of curiosity on my Hotpoint dishwasher, it is a bit old, maybe that's why the napkins came out all soaking wet an I found it pretty hard to dry them and finally I thought that washing machine is actually designed for washing cloth, so the whole experiment was totally weird! :)

curious for an update

I notice that you didn't get any replies to this question, but I was wondering if you ended up trying it yourself and, if so, how it worked for you. It would be really nice to be able to do this!
