This is not a tip, but my favorite environmental quote. It is from Edward Abbey's book "Desert Solitaire." This excerpt is from a chapter concerned with the building of roads in our national parks: "We have agreed not to drive our automobiles into cathedrals, concert halls, art museums, legislative assemblies, private bedrooms and the other sanctums of our culture; we should treat our national parks with the same deference, for they, too, are holy places."
Medium Green
Laundry Detergent - Liquid
I started buying Seventh Generation products in the mid/late 1990's from the Real Goods catalog and, later, the website. I'm now pleased to find Seventh Generation in my Military Commissary at Fort Campbell, KY. I love the all purpose cleaner and the blue eucalyptus & lavendar Laundry Detergent. Thanks to Seventh Generation for being "green" before this most recent resurgence in "green living" started! My interests in social responsibility dates back to childhood when I began to notice that I was "sensitive" to chemicals in my environment. I went on to major in geography and agronomy in college and further solidified my commitment to living in a way that protects our resources and our health. As a military spouse and full-time mother, keeping my family healthy and protecting our precious natural resources has taken on even greater signifigance. I sincerely hope that this most recent surge in environmental consciousness will become a lasting way of life for our society and our world instead of a passing fad. Finally, one very beneficial improvement that I wish to see is easier recycling for electronic products. I recently sent a cordless phone out in the garbage after spending HOURS at the computer trying to find a recycling facility that would take my phone. The only part of the telephone that I was able to recycle was the battery. This wasteful action will haunt me for weeks. However, it highlighted, in a very personal way, the need for greater integration of recycling facilities into our into our communities and our consciousness. Sincerely, Sarah Callahan Gracey, KY
