I use 7th generation dish liquid ( the one that has the questionable ingredient???} to clean my windows rather than buying another product. Works great and I use the micro cloths from Method rather than paper towels. Vinegar is great for cleaning also, I just read that if you mix one part baking soda with 4parts lemon juice it will clean all tarnish from copper. Definitely going to try it. The main thing is that I do not want anything going down the drain that I would not want to end up in the waterways. We can make a difference, always keep in mind the power of ONE and keep smiling.

I believe in the power of the human spirit, and have often used the quote on the packaging of 7th Generation products. I live in the South, and find that there are few individuals mobilized and have made it a personal goal to share all that I find regarding our impact on the environment. Many people find my passion humorous and many have found me annoying but there are moments that I have a positive feeling that I have made a difference. All of my gifts to family and friends are environmentally friendly and often times include information on where you can get a specific product locally. I have certified our 5 acres (2) two years ago with the National Wilflife Assn, and stopped using any type of fertilizer, insecticides, and plant for the most part plants that are native. I am a sucker for a beautiful tropical plant so I do have a few that are not so native. I recycle all of our paper, glass and plastics. We consciencely try to only purchase #1 and #2 plastics since they are so easily recycled. We recycle our batteries and have recently switched to rechargeable batteries, we have solar lighting in our landscape and are constantly pushing our state legislators to convert our state to net metering, I am trying to get this accomplished so we can convert to Solar for our source of energy with a company called CitizenRE. No success yet. I have had a small organic herb and vegtable garden for 3 years and I am teaching my children and grandchildren to importance of taking care of our precious Earth and all creatures. OUr grocery bill has soared due to the added expense of organic produce and environmentally friendly cleaning products. I have shopped with my own bags which I purchased from Reusablebags.com and I pack lunches in some really great little wraps from Wrapmats.com. Unfortunately I have not been able to locate any local produce that is organically grown nor a community CSA that is close to our home. We have converted all of our lighting in our home to CFC's and anxiously look forward to LED's that will eliminate the mercury. We have a lake in the front of our property and when we first purchased the property the previous owners we putting in copper and some chemicals that dyed the lake and shaded the bottom to eliminate the growth of weeds; to my husbands dislike I stopped using any such products in our lake. He liked the blue shade of the water, but in all good conscience I just could not pour a chemical in our water. Just this year I have planted red clover and wild flowers on the other side of the lake, our homeowners association requires that we keep our property cut, but we are only cutting next to the streets and hoping that there will be no complaints. So far there have been no complaints about my retractable clothes line which I placed in the back of our property and which is not visible to anyone but us, and no complaints about our compost which is contained. Keep your fingers crossed. WE are seriously trying to make a difference, and since we are not sure what type of new vehicle to purchase we are buying off sets from Terrapass for our driving and for any commercial plane travel we do. Hope we are making some difference. I have offered my volunteer services to a small private school to start a community recycling program, the Ecology class has been trying to get some grant money and there is a local bank that has offered their services.
