Toxic Fabric Softener?

I have a extremely bad reaction to fabric softeners - I cannot be in the same room with anyone who has it on their clothes or have to run from people in public when I smell it. It stays with me and in my saliva for a long time, headache & nausea too. What is it that makes it so toxic? It would help to know to explain to people why they need to stop using it - other than it makes me sick and will catch your dryer on fire from the residue.

It's so good to know you

It's so good to know you can relate. I know what you mean about the babies who cannot say "this stuff is making me sick". Most parents think they're doing the right thing by using softeners to make baby clothes soft-I think it's only because the commercials tells them "it's snuggley and smells "April fresh". My neighbors use it and I'm forced to stay inside and close the windows. I wish there was a way that I could tell them without offending them. I'm looking forward to other post also.

fabric softener and dryer sheets

I feel your pain! I too am very sensitive to the fragrance from fabric softeners and dryer sheets. When I take my baby for a walk in his stroller and someone has their dryer running, my throat muscles constrict as soon as I breath the fragrance. I feel so bad for tiny babies who are forced to inhale that toxicity when their clothes are washed and/or dried with that stuff. I'm very interested to see the other replies to your post.
