Tempur-pedic Beds

Does any one have any information about these beds? I have tried to get information from the company and the authorized stores but no one seems to be able to tell me much. Exactly what are they made of? Are they treated with anything toxic? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Tempupedic smells horrible

I bought a Tempurpedic a few months ago. It must have smelled for 3 weeks before my wife made me return it. It absolutely has VOC content. I talked with www.myessentia.com and after awhile I found out their advertising claims are false. They say "memory foam like material" and the salesperson admitted its not actually memory foam it is latex.. which feels completely different. I just bought a bed from Tempflow and so far so good. They claim no smell and as soon as we received the bed I could instantly tell it had NO odor at all.

Organic Mattress alternative to Tempu-Pedic mattresses

There is a great product out there that is a totally organic mattress . . . Savvy Rest. They are based in Charlottesville, VA. My husband and I bought one about 4 years ago. Got it delivered and slept on it for two weeks. We called them to ask about being a rep for them in the Atlanta area. We currently show this mattress in The Green Pear and we love spending one on one time with everyone that wants to find out the benefits of healthful sleep on a totally natural product that has no off-gassing. Visit their website: www.savvyrest.com to find out
more about this wonderful product. If you have any questions, you can call them direct or go to a retailer in your city to try one out, reconfigure the layers to the firmness you want and learn how important good sleep is to your body.

If you want to contact me, you may at qohantiques@yahoo.com. I would be more than happy to tell you more about this very healthy product.

RE: Aye, temperpedic is bad business.

Aye, temperpedic is bad business.

You back relies on gravity compressing your spine during the day and your body posture on spreading it apart at night. During compression, it squeezes the waste out of the discs between vertebrae. During decompression, it sucks in new minerals and nutrients. Discs are in an awkward situation because there is no blood vessels to them to supply minerals or take waste.

In a temperpedic mattress, your shoulders sink in and anchor the top of your spine in place. Your butt sinks in as well and anchors the bottom of your spine in place. This eliminates the decompression part of the cycle so your discs never get to decompress and suck in the protiens they need to rebuild themselves. They also never get rid of the wastes that continually build up.

Eventually, you get a bulged disc situation and lots more pain.

I would not take this persons word for it... They obviously do not know what REALLY causes bulged disks or what happens while compressing/decompressing... I would like a link or such to prove such claims. Here is mine: http://www.spine-health.com/conditions/herniated-disc/whats-a-herniated-.... Note that "mattress type" has NOTHING to do with a bulged disk...

Mattress Green Washing

I don't believe any of the claims made by Tempurpedic. My sister bought the bed (I tried to talk her out of it) and regretted her decision the first night she slept on it. Her biggest complaint was the fact that she had extremely bad headaches and slept hot. She got sucked into the hype of the bed and thought her investment would pay off with great sleep. My sister believes that if a product is on the market then it must be safe. After putting this toxic bed in her house I'm happy to say she has seen the light. It is an illusion that government agencies are protecting our health. Their are no labels with accurate insight into a products health risks. As far as mattresses go toxic emissions from bedroom chemicals may be one of our most significant sources of daily exposure to pollution. When I did my research on mattresses I chose an OMI Mattress. NO MATTRESS could match their purity guarantee. OMI, I believe, is the only certified organic mattress in North America and is third party tested. NO green washing with that company. I love my mattress! It literally changed my life. My only complaint is when I stay at a hotel I don't sleep very well. Sleeping on a conventional mattress (including Temurpedic)is like wearing a polyester shirt as opposed to a cotton shirt……yuck!

Tempurpedic's claim

Well, this is what I found:

"Tempur-Pedic mattresses help to avoid inhaling common bedding allergens while you sleep. While dust mites have been a common problem with the thick padding that covers traditional innerspring mattresses, it becomes a non-issue with Tempur-Pedic products. Tempur-Pedic products pride themselves on being hypoallergenic. All products are naturally treated to be resistant to mites and other household allergens. In addition to being resilient to allergens, Tempur-Pedic also is devoid of chemicals that harm the environment and are toxic to humans. Biogreen™ memory foam is completely non-toxic and free of V.O.C. (Volatile Organic Compounds). Tempur-Pedic products are also both chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and formaldehyde free."

Not sure when their foams became "Biogreen", but YMMV.

Natural Tempurpedic

We actually invented natural memory foam. www.myessentia.com

They're biodegradable memory foam mattresses ;-)

I bought a temperpedic bed

I bought a temperpedic bed about two years ago and have regretted my purchase ever since. It has been the worst bed I have ever owned. I wake up in pain every morning (something that never happended until I bought this mattress). I would not recommend this type of mattress.

good mattresses

A good company that sells natural and organic mattresses and other products is Janice's Corporation. They have a website and have catalogs. I do not recall the website address. Just google the company name.

tempur pedic bed

hi,

I've been doing A LOT of research lately on beds, as I'm hoping to get a new one in the next 6 months, and b/c of many health issues it MUST be non toxic, chemical free. Based on the research I've done, tempur pedic DOES NOT meet that critera. They are anything but non toxic or chemical free. Unfortantely, I've done so much research, I can't remember everywhere I've been, but if you google non toxic mattresses or all natural mattresses, it might lead you to links & articles about how "green" there beds are. I myself am looking into an all natural, (non toxic, chemial free ofcourse) latex bed, based on the research I've done it's eco friendly/non toxic version of the tempur pedic bed.

I know this isn't much, but I would just start googling natural mattresses, or non toixc beds and that will probably give you some info to start with. It's sorta the back door way of getting the info you might be looking for.

good luck.
