Cross-posted by Jen and Stacie on Tampontification.com on 10.14.06:

Three days in Burlington, VT were spent with our minds, gear and binders being jam packed. Sincere devotion, quality laughter, homemade apple pie and water soaked tampons (the ones we dipped in an effort to examine the differences between radial and linear expansion, of course…but more on that later) were the order of the day, despite our ambitious agenda.

It recent came to our attention that Good Human blog had begun a post called Method vs. Seventh Generation - let the battle begin, and while I am appreciative of the opening to good deep dialogue it did raise questions.

Last week the entire Seventh Generation staff headed to Trapp Family Lodge
in a Stowe, Vermont, for our annual two day retreat. (The Trapp family is the same one of Sound of Music fame.) The Lodge is a frequent destination for Seventh Gen meetings. It sits high upon a wonderful hill, giving you the impression that the world is at your door. Just wanted to drop this quick note to say that Jeffrey's Q&A with Grist readers is now on-line as part of his Interactivist participation this week. The questions posed are pretty interesting as are Jeffrey's answers, and it makes for a good snapshot of some things that don't often get discussed. Worth a look if you've got some time this weekend.

We all experience more than a touch of both scorn and envy when it comes to fame. But travel with me to L.A for an evening that benefited one of the best and bravest organizations, a non-profit that’s figured out how to put all that celebrity status to good use.

CHEC, the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition, is a world leader in protecting children from environmental toxins. It was founded more than a decade ago by Jim and Nancy Chuda following the tragic loss of their daughter, Colette, to a rare form of non-hereditary cancer, CHEC’S mission is to educate parents and all those concerned with the welfare of children about preventable health and developmental problems caused by exposures to toxic substances in homes, schools and communities.

Even prior to joining the Seventh Generation team last fall, the term “environmentalist” left me feeling unsettled. It may be a moot point to many, but, as I reflect on the germination of my discomfort with the word, I hope to confirm that my foreboding instincts about its unfortunate evolution began, for me, not as an employee of an eco-responsible company, but as a regular-old citizen of the planet.
