SG paper towels were on sale at my lo9cal store and I decided to give them a try. Bought two thinking that it would be so nice to help the Earth and that they would match my kitchen cabinets color. When I unpacked one roll I was surprised that it felt like news paper- suspiciousely smooth and thin. But I thought that it was the result of reused paper. But when I tried to dry the first tea spill I realised, that SG paper towels behave as wet regular news paper- doesn't soak anything, peal and tear. so they look, feel and perform as a newspaper. Waste of money and great dissapointment! I feel happy I haven't bought any feminine products from SG, otherwise the results could have been much more sad!!! Seriousely, I was thinking of buying some. How lucky I am! But have to confess, I gave the opened paper towel to my daughter to play with it, as I couldn't stand this roll in my kitchen any longer. And I returned the second unopened to the store. I had enough. So SG lost my trust. I probably buy some green products, but not from SG, that is for sure!

Good for some uses...
I also purchased the SG natural (natural color too) paper towels and was disappointed in their absorbancy (or lack of!). No, they are not good for wiping up spills. However, I have found that I do use them for wiping my countertops and for cleaning the bathroom mirrors. I do wish that SG could somehow make the papertowels more absorbent.

Requires change of habit...
Like the poster said above, it depends what you use them for, and if using a 100% post consumer content is important like it is to me, SG paper towels are fine.
Will SG paper towels soak up a big spill of juice on the floor? No. Do SG paper towels work well for cleaning glass with glass cleaner? Yes. I also use them for when I need to do wipe up something gross, such as when my dog has eaten something that didn't agree with him (you get my drift here).
I rarely use paper towels, mostly I use cotton towels to wipe up a mess, or cloth napkins (many in my extended family still use paper towels as napkins! AHHH).

Compare, compare, compare...and then prioritize
So I just compared Scott Naturals with Seventh Generation, and guess what... Scott's work better. However, SG uses 100% post comsumer content and Scott's is only 60%. And the packaging of SG is 80% post comsumer content. Scotts is only 20%. So if fab performance is so important to you, ok fine. If doing something for the environment is important, use a cloth towel, and use and use and reuse. That'll be even better, and it'll be more absorbant so you'll be happy and the earth and your wallet will thank you.
FYI- If you want to recycle your own newspaper, it cleans windows and glass, and sops up spills really well. Bounty it is not, but it does have its place, just like SG paper towels.
