Recommendation: Add Comments / Feedback section for "Ask the Science Man"

I and I'm sure many of your readers enjoy the columns by "The Science Man", but when I saw the post about "how to choose water", I found myself taking issue with the article...wanting to share my views on this matter, I began to look for a "comment" link but it was nowhere to be found and that surprised me. I strongly felt that the article misrepresented the reality of what exists in regards to the benefits of filtered water over tap water(ie. health issues with fluoride, chlorine and Chloramine, etc. to name a few), a subject that I and many of your readers can write a whole column about...Regardless of my personal viewpoint on any one subject, including this one, I feel that it would be of great value to this community to see comments and feedback in much the same way that you provide in your other blogging venues. Perhaps even more importantly since you are coming across as "shielding" your director of technology from feedback (ie..can't argue with a 'scientist')

fritzoschitzo claims are "factually challenged"

fritzoschitzo should be ashamed. He writes: The National Academy of Sciences is against it! (pdf)

Since I have a lot of respect for this organization, I followed the link and find that the National Academy of Sciences is in fact NOT against fluoride. The report says, and I quote:

"The safety and effectiveness of the practice of water fluoridation
was outside the scope of this report and is not evaluated."

I've read about fluoridation before. The rationale for doing so was the observation many decades ago that there was a strong negative correlation between cavities and natural water fluoride levels. Sound scientific testing proved a cause and effect relationship.

Too little fluoride is harmful. Too much is harmful too. Over 150 million Americans have fewer cavities because of fluorine purposely in their water and toothpaste. According to the NAS report, about 1 million Americans have more cavities or fluorosis due to excess fluorine, which is caused not by fluoridation, but by naturally occurring high concentrations of fluorine, or young children who swallow lots of toothpaste. 150 to 1 is a large ratio.

Download the report and read it for yourself.

fluoride deception

I too was baffled at the response that tap water is better than bottled. Sure, tap water may be regulated for many things, but ultimately all of it is pointless once chlorine and fluoride are added to it. Distilled water is probably the purest form of water, however, it contains no minerals so drinking in very large quantities without a proper diet can deplete your body of minerals. Mineral water seems to be your best bet in terms of health and benefits. The fluoride debate is a huge can of worms by itself...and I will open it.

We are brainwashed to think fluoride is actually good for us by dentists and other "experts". The rise in fluoride consumption actually contributes to dental fluorosis (damage to tooth-forming cells). How ironic. But people do not question if dentists and the government says it's good for you and me. There is actually an organization of dentists out there that are ANTI fluoride! That should tell you something. Sodium fluoride is what they add to tap water & toothpaste and it is basically a chemical waste by-product from the fertilizer industry!! The packages of sodium fluoride in water management sites have crossbones on them...yummy. Our bodies only excrete about half of the fluoride we ingest. The rest gets stored in our bodies as toxins and can cause disease and cancer. By the way, if you are drinking tea that is not organic, you are consuming more fluoride than almost every food in the market. Fluoride is the main ingredient in pesticides/fertilizer and tea leaves absorb a great amount (oh, and rat killer too). Why would the government lend a deaf ear to the proof that fluoride is a pointless toxin in our water and toothpaste? I have my theories, but those are for another time. Here are some sources web sources. Educate yourself and make healthier choices for yourself and your children. Once you know the truth, you have no excuse!
