I am still confused as to what water bottles are supposedly safe and which are not. My daughter's soccer coach and softball coach went to every team member and started taking away water bottles. I've personnaly never liked sports water bottles. so what can we use in place of them?

Opt for stainless steel
You could always get a stainless steel water bottle. It's reusable and safe. I've seen them at Target.
SIGG is a safe metal bottle and lightweight!
do try picking up a SIGG...
you will see it is very lightweight compared to other metal bottle brands!
metals of some makers make some drinks taste aweful!
i tryed hot chocolate in one brand and it got to be so bitter i tossed it all!
SIGG is best with cold water...it stays tasting great and keeps much colder longer than in plastic too!
also, it is cleanable, and not needing tossed like all plastics do.
still, it is safer than heavy breakable glass bottles in the gym!
i don't like plastic...so i found at REI.com the anniversary model with a solid metal cap!!!
i take it everywhere, and am so happy to have found it!
try one!

Which Plastic Water Bottles Are Safe?
Pottery Barn also carried a re-usable aluminum water bottle this Spring. Great price too - $10
Plastic Water Bottle Alternatives
Try SIGG or Kleen Kanteen water bottles. I believe they are made from stainless steel. Neither leach any chemicals. My daughter loves her SIGG cup because she got to pick out a design with flowers and a kitty! And I carry my SIGG bottle with me everywhere and get lots of compliments on it. Both are available at reusablebags.com.
If you want to stick to plastic, #2 (HDPE), #4 (LDPE), and #5 (PP) are considered safe and non-leaching, according to my extensive research in magazines and on the web!
Never reuse one time use bottles, which are made from #1 (PET or PETE) as it immediately begins to break down and harbors bacteria. Also, #7 (PC - polycarbonate), the most common type of plastic used to make reusable water bottles, is also considered unsafe by scientists, even though the FDA still considers it safe. The FDA has just recently stated that it MIGHT be unsafe.
Good luck!
