PARABENS in Infant Vitamin D drops

Hi there. I'm a breastfeeding mother, and as we live in a cold enviroment (Montreal Canada) which prevents my baby from getting a descent amount of sun exposure on a daily basis, I was told to give him an infant vitamin D supplement. However, the very first ingredient in the supplement is parabens. I havent found any other formulas that dont include parabens. Has anyone found a brand of infant vitamins that doesnt contain parabens? Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do?

Not true

The above post by ffsayers is a load of horsedoo and a major shill.
It is condescending (i'm more educated and have access to databases that require membership that you peons have no access to)and factually inaccurate.
There are many studies documenting at least the potential effects of parabens their link to health hazards from skin allergies, irritation and reactions to endocrine disruption, developmental and reproductive toxicity and even breast cancer.
Parabens essentially function as an estrogen mimic- if you want to feed estrogens to your baby feel free to follow his advice.
And the assertion that they are FDA regulated and would not be used if unsafe is laughable. The FDA has rather limited powers, here is their statement on parabens http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/ProductandIngredientSafety/SelectedCosmetic...
Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement to me.

Parabens such as

Parabens such as methyparaben and others are commonly used as an excipient or non-active ingredient in lots of pharmaceuticals. They are definitely not harmful and needed to preserve the different agents used against bacteria growth. Preservatives are found in almost every product consumed and there is absolutely no clinical evidence of toxicities. These products are FDA regulated for their safety and effectiveness and would not be used if they were. Hypersensitivies to these preservatives would be the only reason one would avoid them. I personally have compounded many pharmaceutical agents such as creams and lotions and all of the non-active ingredients are vital to the functionality of the topical agent. Many of these are viscosity agents (adjust flow of the emulsion), preservatives (to inhibit bacterial growth), and lipophilic and hydrophilic agents to allow for cream to reach its intended site of action and do what it is designed to do.

Before you make personal assessments on compounds such as this, make sure you do the necessary research from primary sources. There will also be uneducated people who claim otherwise without proper scientific clinical primary data supporting such objections. Unfortunately many of the medical/pharmaceutical data and relevant primary information can only be found from sites such as lexicomp, Facts and Comparisons, and ect. Many of these sites require membership for access and/or are limited to those in the medical profession. Therefore, the specific sites I personally use for my own research is restricted, but I assure you that they agents which contain such compounds are very safe.

Vit D.

I take it you live in a sun deprived area? In Texas, we just sit outside for 10 to 30 minutes in the sun, and get the best Vit.D possible. Maybe that's why I have ot heard of a pediatrician suggesting a supplement of D? Dr. Mercola has a great deal of supplement info on his site..maybe there is something about a good liquid D for babies.

Thanks for let me know.

My Dr. too said to give Vit. D drops, but all I could find was Tri-Vi-Sol. It smelled nasty like a multi-vitamin pill, and had other vitamins and sugar. When I asked about just a D drop, I to got weird looks. Thanks for letting me now where to find what I need. Looking forward to reciving our first bottle. Maybe she won't spit this out.

Thanks so much for the www.ddrops.ca website! I went to it and it provides a link to Carlson Nutritional Supplements, which sells D drops to the U.S.

Need that in USA!!!

Hi.
I have been trying to find a Vitamin D suppl. for my son w/o all the additives in it, and everyone always looks at you funny when you ask for such a thing. Now I have no choice but to give him Tri-Vi-Sol which has sugar in it and two other vitamins he really doesn't need. This is so frustrating! And of course what I want is only available in Canada! And it's such a great idea too!

I found a great product

I found a great product called Baby D drops (www.ddrops.ca) that apparently only contains corn oil and vitamin D. It's much easier to administer than syrupy formulations of which you need to give your baby 1 ml. Only one drop is necessary and there's no struggle - baby doesn't even know they're getting it!
