If you want to kill weeds that grow in the cracks of sidewalks, spray them with white vinegar - or pour boiling water on them. This is much better than using an herbicide like Round Up.

Hi - that's a picture of me learning how to can tomato sauce from tomatoes I purchased from our CSA. I was inspired by Barbara Kingsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" to start buying seasonal, local food. My husband built two raised garden boxes in our backyard, and I am learning to grow vegetables. We also have an open-bin compost system going in our side yard. I earned my Master Gardener certification a couple of years ago. I've done volunteer work through that program to educate others on sustainable gardening practices. I've converted our small urban front yard into a local native plant garden. Through a Pittsbrugh City Parks program called Urban EcoStewards, I am learning to identify invasive plants, and have helped clear them from a neighborhood park.
