University of Colorado Boulder Students put 4X Laundry Detergent to the Test

We took our 4x Liquid Laundry Detergent on the road and had college students from University of Colorado Boulder put it to the test. We had them make some seriously ucky, gucky stains -- Ben & Jerry’s chocolate ice cream, cranberry juice, tomato sauce -- and do a full load, Seventh Generation style.

This little powerhouse-in-a-cardboard-bottle got an A+ and proved to be a well-rounded hit with the students. They liked the smell, and were surprised & delighted when their clothes came out sparkling white.

I love this detergent. Have been using the Eucalyptus and Lavender since it came out. Try the scents made for Target once in a while but E&L remain my fave. The hand soap, dish soap, cleaners...use them all, wouldn't go back to anything else. Could you please make something like a soft scrub though? Don't use soft scrub but tempted sometimes, or maybe I'll just add baking soda to dish soap...sometimes you just need to scrub!

I love love love the detergent for my sensitive skin. I haven't found much else that I can use a small amount of, and also doesn't irritate my skin. Love the free and clear!

This was a cheery thing, and it tells us what it was they were pouring on fabrice (instead of just showing, when we don't know if it's really staining or not). But Haagen Daz (sp) ice cream is a classic to get on our shirts over the summer esp. :) I also like how they have an array of ages, showing all their interests (from toddler to grade school, college, and adults).

I've been using 7Gen stuff for years. One of the things I love about the 4X stuff is the cool recyclable packaging! Good stuff.

I have tried it all: baking soda, borax, etc. to clean my kid's clothing stains. I will put this to the test and see how it works.

I use the 7th Generation laundry detergent, but haven't tried the 4x. I have a top loading machine. Does it work as well in top loaders as it does in front loaders? I do love the new dryer sheets.

It is wonderful that 7th generation is helping to reduce plastic with their new laundry bottles. However, the new bottles with the 4x detergent are still not on most grocery store shelves. In my area I could only find them at Whole Foods which is 1 hr. from my town, and not a Target or Kroger (where I normally purchase my 7th generation products). I don't want to purchase cleaning items on line it just contributes to more packaging waste and $ on shipping.

How does this work in HE machines? I've found that a lot of detergents even if they are formulated for HE don't totally wash out.....

Looks like it is pretty tough on stains. I'll definitely have to try it on my household clothes. Not so sure if it gentle enough to use on baby clothes. I'm sure as my twin get older, I'll have more tough stains to remove on their clothes.

I love Seventh Generation products. I have noticed that Tide and Downy leave gross greasy residue in my dispenser, but when I use Seventh Generation products my dispenser is clean. I don't want that nasty residue on my clothes!

7th Gen, I like your products and use them regularly. But when I saw the comment section to this video, the replies sounded contrived. Do you recruit people to post? I've worked as a social media intern, and here's my two cents. The internet is for community. When marketers try to imitate ground swell, the result is often offensive and disingenuine. The message such marketers send is, we don't care about you, we only want your money, and we're willing to deceive you to acquire it. I know you're trying to market your products. Isn't there a way you can do so without using people?

We save money by adding baking soda etc. to our wash and use less detergent. What is the best amount to use?
