University of Colorado Boulder Students put 4X Laundry Detergent to the Test

We took our 4x Liquid Laundry Detergent on the road and had college students from University of Colorado Boulder put it to the test. We had them make some seriously ucky, gucky stains -- Ben & Jerry’s chocolate ice cream, cranberry juice, tomato sauce -- and do a full load, Seventh Generation style.

This little powerhouse-in-a-cardboard-bottle got an A+ and proved to be a well-rounded hit with the students. They liked the smell, and were surprised & delighted when their clothes came out sparkling white.

Do you know how many stains go into a laundry basket without one of the girls pretreating it. Or I might miss it, no one wants ruined clothes. I hope this product is as powerful as you say it is. Laundry detergent is too expensive these days, and when you find a great one you stick with it.

Gotta agree with graceonline. Spills and other stains will generally sit in the hamper where they are dried out and set in until the weekend, when I finally have time to do the laundry. My kids are not firm believers in pretreating the stains before they put them in the hamper... would be more impressed with a test that demonstrates dried and ground in clothing stains that are more representative of average households with kids whose main priorities don't include having their whites stay white.

I gauge all other cleaning products scents based on the Seventh Generation standard. And they all fail. I LOVE my detergent! (Back, heathens!) ).

I'd like to have seen how real clothes that have were worn out partying, got sweaty, got spills, got sweaty some more, and were washed with a full load of clothing came out in the wash. Does the product clean grime that's been ground in through normal wear and tear, then dried and wadded up in the hamper for a week or two. That would be a fair test of the product. But I am keen on trying it, especially since you say it comes in a cardboard bottle. Any plastic in it? Totally biodegradable?

My fiancee and I have been using the Free & Clear product for months now and we love it. We like the fact that it is a concentrated formula that comes in a partially compostable package. We can get ~70 loads per container and the great part is when we've used it all up, we toss the outer packaging into our backyard compost pile. Also, I reuse the bottle caps in my kindergarten classroom for various sorting/ collecting activities.

I smelled the unscented and it has this weird chalky play-doh smell to it. Maybe the lavender is better?
