On the Road
I've been on the road so much, I haven't had time to write. But since my travels have taken and will take me to some wonderful and unlikely places, I thought I'd let you in on what I'm up to.
Last week, I trekked to the University of New Hampshire, to speak at Gary Hirshberg's Social Entrepreneurship Institute. The purpose of the Institute is to provide emerging entrepreneurs with exposure to "straight-talking" businesspeople. This "boot camp" has become incredibly popular and attracts entrepreneurs from all over the country. I was there to share Tales from the Trenches -- to tell stories of how I've confronted challenges in building Seventh Generation.
To my surprise, I was greeted when I arrived by Adam Gardner, the lead guitarist for GUSTER, one of my all-time favorite bands. He had decided to hang out at the Institute before playing that evening at the University. GUSTER was promoting their Campus Consciousness Tour. Half rock tour, half environmental campaign, the Campus Consciousness Tour aims to inspire and activate students in a fun and exciting atmosphere while leaving a positive impact. Next, I was off to New York, to do a round of broadcast interviews to promote our new TV show, Big Green Lies. I'm appearing on the CBS Early show, CNBC, and MSNBC. Also, about 16 radio interviews, which I was happily able to do from home.
Then on to California, where I will speak at the Fortune Brainstorm Green Conference on the subject of "Reimagining Consumption," focusing on what sustainable consumption might look like, and how to get there.
While I'm in LA, I will have the opportunity to impress the importance of sustainability on some of Hollywood's biggest celebs, when United Talent Associates hosts me for an Earth Day speech at their headquarters. If I manage to make even a little bit of difference, I'll be pleased.
