In today's world with its vast and mind-boggling array of consumer products we have no choice but to be educated and vigilant with our daily purchases.

I'm a little bit addicted to salmon: It's easy to cook, tastes great, and it has 48 grams of protein per 8 ounce serving. Studies have shown that it also might be helpful in treating anxiety due to its high content of Omega-3s. In fact, Ohio State University researchers found that just 2.5mgs of Omega-3s, meaning 12 to 15 ounces of salmon, can lessen anxiety by more than 20%.

There's huge news from the nation's cleaning product cupboard: Procter & Gamble, one of the biggest cleaner companies on the block, is reformulating Tide and Tide Free & Gentle laundry detergents so they contain much less of a troubling toxin called 1,4-dioxane.

Sesame oil, which gives a warm zest to so many dishes in Asian cuisine, is said to have originated at least 3,000 years ago, though the debate exists as to whether it was first produced in Africa or in India. It is widely believed that as early as the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) families were processing it in their homes, and it was at first used as a household fuel. Sesame oil was also used for making exotic perfumes, dating back to the Babylonians, circa 2100 to 689 BCE. And the Chinese are said to have used the oil for their stick ink more than 5,000 years ago.
