Bluefin tuna might be a delicious addition to your sushi platter, but the poor, overfished bluefin is not the best choice when it comes to sustainability. And these plant-based cleaners are easier to find than you think -- no need to make a special trip to a health food store as they can be found in most grocery stores.

A few days ago, I got my first sign of spring—a red-winged blackbird calling from the hedgerow. Other than that, evidence that winter is over in these still-quite-frozen parts exists solely on calendars and in fevered imaginations. Still, spring will eventually show up. And with it the toughest challenges of the cleaning season.

A little of this, a little of that, not quite enough for a full serving -- but what a waste to just toss it. Recent studies show that about 40 percent of the food we buy is thrown away -- wasting time energy and resources. Organizations like the Food Recovery Network are working to reduce food waste and fight hunger by recovering surplus perishable food and donating it to people in need.
