As eco-savvy parents, we try to instill green values in our kids at home. But once we put them on the school bus, we relinquish a lot of control over their green choices. Letting them ride the bus is a pretty sustainable act, but once they get to school, there's no guarantee the produce offered in the cafeteria will be pesticide free or that the cleaning products used in the gym will be nontoxic.

If you haven't seen the delightful confection Julie & Julia, I summon my best Julia Child imitation to say: You must simply must! The film has helped me understand that Julia Child was a culinary green goddess. (I know, I know, the French Chef did commit innumerable sins against creatures great and small, including throwing live lobsters into boiling water. That said, please hear me out.)

Did you know that more than 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year? That's 22,000 women too many. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle making it difficult to diagnose. And there is no effective screening test for ovarian cancer other than those for patients at high risk or who have early symptoms.

He's best known for bringing to light human rights abuses in Asia and Africa, such as the global sex trade and the conflict in Darfur. It is remarkable to be living in the age when what sounds like far-fetched speculation can quickly become mind-bending reality. From cell phones that do everything but walk the dog to invisibility cloaks and other coming wonders, we live in a time of virtual magic. Now comes the strangest trick yet: manmade life.
