For more than 20 years you have trusted us to help you safely and effectively clean the surfaces and fabrics in your home. Recently, we've been focusing our efforts on cleaning a different but very important type of surface -- your hands.

Introducing Seventh Generation Hand Wash -- the first of its kind to feature purely plant-derived cleansing ingredients that deliver the rich, foamy experience you expect from conventional products. Our non-toxic, dermatologist-tested formula is designed to feel thick right out of the bottle and build a rich lather as it gently cleanses your skin.

Now, let's see a show of hands that want to be washed in synthetic dyes and fragrances...that's what we thought, too. Try the fragrance-free, dye-free Just Clean or enjoy Fresh Citrus, which is scented with essential oils and botanical extracts from orange, grapefruit, and mandarin orange. Our hand wash is available at select Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Harmon and Christmas Tree Shops stores. Click here to see the full list of stores.

Also in favor of refill bottles

Once I see those refill bottles on the shelf you won't find me buying any other kind of refill regardless of coupons or deals. My children both have highly sensitive skin issues and I have recently made a change to free and clear natural cleaning products. Almost all of them being Seventh Generation brand!

Lather? Answer for rox731

What makes the product lather up? A blend of all natural, petroleum-free cleaning agents (surfactants derived from plants) gives the Seventh Generation Hand Wash a rich, abundant lather. These cleaning agents actually work in concert with aloe vera juice, which stabilizes the foam and gives it that cushion-like, creamy foam action. In fact, in independent performance tests, Seventh Generation Hand Wash lathered up like the conventional brands but without the use of petroleum-derived surfactants. We hope you'll enjoy using it as much as we all do! Let us know if you have any other questions. - Sue

Refills? Answer for d_ingraham

Good question: will we have refills? Right now we don’t offer refills, mainly because personal care products of this nature is still uncharted territory for us. This new foray is something we are entering slowly, so we started with only a couple of items. The thinking was that if these new products were well received, we would investigate expanding the line next year. That said we are hearing a lot of requests for refills right away, and it makes sense: those that love it will want to do the responsible thing and start using refills immediately. Because of this, we will start to explore possible refill options in the next few months.
Thanks for jumping right on this idea and hopefully we will have something to show you soon. Let us know if you have any other questions. -Sue

Another Way

After using up liquid soap in pump containers, given as gifts, I took and put Seventh Generation dish soap in and used them for washing hands. One time, after changing the oil in my car, I was quite impressed at how good the Sev Gen dish liquid was at getting the black oil off my hands.

Hand Wash

If you like to use the foaming hand washes as much as I do, here is an inexpensive way to refill the bottles. Just pour in about 1/4 cup of desired hand soap or Seventh Generation dish soap and fill with water. You can vary the amount of soap depending on how "rich" you want the foam. It's a fantastic way to reuse bottles and SAVE lots of money.

Hey Klcashwell

Guess what? Soap, water and friction are still the best "sanitizing ingredients" out there. All ya gotta do is wash your hands for thirty seconds, scrubbing vigorously, and voila! I took a CNA program a few years back and they had us sing happy birthday or go through the ABC song....
All this and propylene glycol and nonoxynol-9(?) and kill this kill that, nasty chemical crap is not necessary. It's marketing. It's the chemical industry trying to make a buck.
If you're really worried though, go get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and dump a little in with the soap. Problem solved.
I clean houses for a living and use hydrogen peroxide and thymol (thyme extract) as my antibacterials. Everything else is soap. I rarely even use gloves. I get sick twice a year.
Peace.

Lather?

Curious to know, what did you use to make it lather up?

Does this have any natural anti-bacterial ingredients now that the cold/flu season is approaching?

arghhh

I have been waiting for this hand soap FOREVER! but because I don't live in a major city anymore I can't get it! Why can't we order it online? and why do retailers in less urban areas wrongly assume that there is no market for healthy things outside of major cities? seriously annoying

Don't like the smell...

I stumbled into this at Target the other day and was thrilled it finally came out. However, I love the product in itself but the (citrus) smell reminds me of toilet bowl cleaner. I will likely buy the unscented one in the future and add my own essential oils to it.

Refills?

Will you be producing a refill bottle for these? We'd be happy to use them, but want to avoid the impact of all that extra plastic.
