I’ve been busy mingling with the media over the course of the last handful of days and a couple of the resulting Q&As have now been published. In case you didn’t catch it, this week I’m the featured Interactivist over at Grist. There’s an interview posted now and later in the week I’ll be answering reader questions. Should be fun.

And last week, I sat down with a reporter from our local paper, the Burlington Free Press, to talk about my trip to Bentonville, Arkansas for a conversation with Wal-Mart CEO, Lee Scott. The Free Press interview resulted in an article about my experience and that in turn prompted an editorial on the op-ed page.

Smoke & Mirrors?

Today I received a very thoughtful letter from the coordinator for Global Partnerships for Tobacco Control Essential Action. The gist of the letter was this: A conference on corporate responsibility I’m scheduled to speak at in Philadelphia in a couple of weeks also includes a speaker from cigarette-maker Philip Morris. Given that cigarettes kill and given the group’s suspicion that Philip Morris only participates in these kinds of events because they’re a convenient smokescreen (no pun intended) they can hide behind, the letter urged me to insist that conference organizers uninvite Philip Morris and to withdraw my own participation if they refused.

My College Commencement

Yesterday I had the wonderful challenge of sending a group of college graduates off on the next chapter in their journey through life. What to say? I wrote and rewrote my speech, practiced it with my wife, and both my 11 and 18 year old daughters. But you know what? As I stepped up to the podium , I barely read a word that I had written!
