A Safe Visit to Toyland
By the Inkslinger - December 5, 2008
'Tis the season to be giving, and if there are kids under your roof chances are that's going to mean some new toys.
As a parent, I find myself fairly bewildered by all the options and worried about hidden health and environmental hazards in playthings.
Here's the latest news report on the topic of toy safety, along with a new article about how to shop for toys. Give it a read and give your kids gifts you won't have to worry about this holiday season.

I am constantly searching for toys made in the E.U. and in North America, as they generally are held to higher manufacturing standards and, as such, contain fewer harmful, if any, heavy metals and other toxins. A few weeks ago, I was delighted to read about a website called www.greenbabybottom.com that is expected to be launched in February 2009. This website will provide concerned parents/family members with an online selection of eco-friendly, North American-made toys, mostly manufactured in PA and VT. These, predominately wooden tools are safe for babies to chew on, as well as educational, colorful, and fun to play with. In addition, the website will offer organic, domestic-made cloth diapers and wraps, which makes me happy, because it encourages parents to choose something other than disposable diapers which pretty much never breakdown and just pile up in landfills and pollute our environment . Thanks for listening, I'll get off of my soap box now.
