consciousness?
This is not about consciousness except in the sense that everything is about consciousness. Probably if the creators of the film knew something of the science of consciousness they would not have made this film. Perhaps it should be pointed out that the film could have shown a joyful series of cause/effect instead. Since it's fictitious, only make-believe, well, make-believe can go any way...
