Why I Let My Three-Year-Old Use a Knife

I often let my three-year-old daughter use a knife.
 
No, not a giant meat cleaver, but a butter knife under close supervision while we make dinner together. I believe that doing so teaches her to be careful and conscientious, helps develop her fine motor skills, and generally keeps her out of shenanigans while I’m cooking.

Our three-year-old daughter loves reading, playing outside, doing crafts, and using a Dust Buster to clean cracker crumbs off of the couch. In fact, her "chore" is one in which she takes massive pride and brags about to anyone who will listen.

At this point in what is hopefully America's waning love affair with fast food, it's as clear as the water we should order instead of soda that the stuff isn't health food, or in many cases, even food at all. But here's a side order of something else to think about: fast food has been linked to more asthma, eczema and rhinitis in kids.
