Hi, my mom cleaned the oven with a chlorine cleaner!!! When my sister baked cookies, there was smoke everywhere in the house. Is the possible emission of dioxin and other toxic chemicals a reasonable cause for concern? What should I do to get rid of the toxic stuff in my house? Thank you.
Dear Dokislap,
It is really difficult to estimate if the smoke from the oven contained any chemicals of concern, but being concerned about your indoor air quality is certainly valid. The quality of indoor air has been linked to human health and environmental issues and cleaning products are the second highest source of toxic indoor air contaminants [1].
