Apparently, growing houseplants using a technique known as hydroponics helps your houseplants to live longer and healthier, with less maintenance on your part. Basically, hydroponics involves growing houseplants in pots containing pebbles and water rather than soil.
I'd like to begin, but it seems like a very cumbersome process left best to commercial buildings and more experienced plant people than me. I found some basic instructions on how to start using hydroponics here.
Does anyone out there possess any experience with using hydroponics and wouldn't mind sharing some basic insights?
I frankly have no idea where to begin with this or whether I've strayed into territory that the average green thumb leaves alone for good reason.

not much help but
I remember when we were first married there was a company that sold hydroponic plants on like a party plan or something. I had a bunch, now looking for a medium red lave rock looks the most like what they used. I am wanting to add more plants to my home but not more soil with mold or fungus that causes allergies to act up. desparate I wnt out and got some rocks from the driveway, wahsed them off and planted my spider plant in them. That was yeasterday but plant seems happy.
Have a great day!
perlite?
in the resource mentioned above they used clay pellets as a filler, I haven't found any of that near my home yet and was wondering if anyone has tried using perlite, I found this at my local hardware store but no one I asked knew much about it. also has anyone tried this with vegetables? I'd like to try tomatoes...
