Does anyone know of a natural insect repellent that really works and won't irritate baby's skin. Fortunately it's starting to get cold here, so maybe I don't have to start worrying about it till spring, but I'd like to figure it out before then.

I don't know how well his works, but some plants and herbs have natural insect repelling properties like citronella (lemon grass?)You can't put essential oils directly on the skin, but if you dissolve a few drops (A little goes a long way.) in a small amount of alcohol and add some water and put it into a spray bottle you might have a citronella bug repellent spray free of harmful additives.
I live in AK and I have used alot of "Hippie" repellents, as my husband calls them. While they work ok in town or sunny, wide trails, they don't seem to cut it once you hit the woody hiking trails or dog park bog.
Do Burt's Bees really hold up, and if they do, what is in them? I tried one that had picaredine (can't remember the spelling)but my midwife said that while it's not overall dangerous as DEET, you still dont want to load you kids with it all the time.
I also use Burt's Bees insect repellent for my children (3yrs and 6mos) here in VT. The mosqitos and black flies are horrible here and this has been sfe for both my babies while infants and beyond. Good Luck:)
I live in the Southeast, where the mosquitoes are terrible. I like Burt's Bees products. They make a natural insect repellent that has worked very well for my family. All of my children have very sensitive skin, and we've never had any irritations. Many of the makers of natural baby products also make bug repellents. Maybe you could try some of these to see what works for you.
