Hardwood Flooring

Can someone please give me some advice on flooring. I need to do redo about 700 sq. feet of my home. I would like to do hardwood. I have 2 large dogs and kids, so the floor needs to be durable. Cork isn't durable enough. Bamboo is not good in the arid environment I live in, and I it seems as if you can only find highly chemically processed bamboo anyway. So, I was thinking prefinished wood floors, so that they don't have to be finished in the house. Is engineered better, worse, the same? Pre finished vs unfinished etc? Domestic vs Imported? Would love to hear the ins and outs of this industry.
Thanks,
J

hardwood flooring

I do not know if eucalyptus wood flooring would meet the criteria, but I heard about it recently as an alternative.
