The best cleaning "advice" I've heard is that clean doesn't have a smell. While I actually do like most of the 7Gen scents, it is nice to stand back in a totally clean room and inhale the scent of...wood furniture and clean air and cotton. Not artificial overpowering scent.
This may seem like a dumb question but as I was cleaning my cutting board after cutting meat it occured to me that the dish soap (seventh generation) does not say that it kills the germs associated with food. I then began to notice that alot of your products do not actually say that they disinfect (except for the disinfectant spray). Are your products actually killing the bacteria or are they simply "cleaning" ?
This is Sue and I am glad to see that your wife(and you)are using healthier products. She is right, they do work well.
It can be harder to find our products in some rural areas; we are working hard at entering grocery stores nationwide to help with that.(You can help us, by asking your local store to sell our products.) If you have a Target store close by, check in to see if they have the product that you want (and again, be sure to ask for it if not). We have a store finder on our web site http://www.seventhgeneration.com/where-to-buy that could help in your search. While on the store finder, take a look at all the online retailers that sell our products and I bet you could find one to fit your needs.
As for the smell, hummmmm, I wonder which fragrance she didn't like, we have a lot of them. Something that is really good to know:we have an entire line of Free & Clear products that don't have any scent at all. All of our scented products are a blend of essential oils, be sure to tell her about the Free & Clear line.
My wife started using some eco friendly cleaners and loves them. She said they work better than the chemical filled ones that she is now getting away from.
I would have to agree that they can be had to find, especially if you live in rural areas. I have yet to buy a Seventh Generation product as the grocery store I shop at, Meijer does not carry them. (I think other Meijer locations do, just not the one I shop at).
One complaint she does have is that some of them do not smell the best. She has to small them all before buying them.
This is Stacie from Consumer Insights at Seventh Gen. Sorry to hear you didn't care for our Lavender, Floral & Mint scent, but that's a great idea to add your own essential oils! What is your fav. homemade blend?
The Seventh Generation Lavender Floral Dish Liquid doesn't smell that great at all. The first time I bought a Seventh Generation Product I used a dollar off 2 bottles coupon to try the dish soap I bought two bottles of the Lavender Floral Dish Liquid. When I got home, I opened one bottle and took the other one back to Kroger to exchange it for the Free and Clear variety. From now on out, I will buy the Free and Clear and add my own essential oil scents. Thank you, very much.
i love the sg laundry detergent. also if you're worried about smell, mrs. meyers smells absolutely amazing. basil scent is my favorite. the all purpose cleaner and the handsoap work really well.
also i had a question that i was wondering if someone could clear up. i was heb the other day and was looking to try some new handsoap and i came upon some J.R. Watkins soap that claimed on the front to be SLS free among other things, but then i read through the ingredient list and the second ingredient was SLS...anyone know what the deal is with that?
I recently tried 7th Gen and their washing liquids are pretty good. As with most green cleaning products they arent as effective as the toxic brands but with a little elbow grease you can get the job done. Method has a tub and tile cleaner that is really effective.
I use sg everything but I also use vinger water lemons and baking soda club soda.you should try read Raising Baby Green it gives you millions of healthy and cheaper alternitives.
I've used Method and Clorox Green works and like some of the product for different things. I'd love to try Seventh Generation but I really find the scents are horrible. I know there are scent free products as well, but I like smell when I clean!!
Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately I don't care for the smells of Seventh Gen's all purpose cleaner, nor for their tub and tile cleaner. I tried. I offer green cleaning services part time and give workshops on green cleaning as well as creating a greener home. One of my clients purchased them, and they bothered my lungs as I was cleaning, crouched down in a small stand up shower stall. So I reverted back to my 1:1 vinegar water cleaner to which I add 30 some drops lemongrass essential oil, true oil, no sythethic stuff, and a tiny squirt of dishsoap. I also add a spray nozzle to hydrogen peroxid and use this in corners of the shower where little black dots appear from time to time. I charge less than merry maid, 80 dollars for 2 hours of cleaning; 115 for three. Merry Maid charged 200 dollars for 2 maids for 2 hours. Or they did about a year or so ago. My customers were mostly very unhappy when I upped my rates (they were formerly 3 hours for 80 dollars). I am so behind on taxes it isn't silly. Houses remain clean, mold free, and so folks continue to use me. Plus I offer myself in a quiet way, and will clear spaces that have negative energy if the customer agrees. They have agreed so far. Sorry to hear you are disappointed. Maybe there is some green washing in the green cleaning? Reenie, Tallahassee, FL
I agree mostly with what you are saying. Sometimes I just need a good cleaner to get that "not so easy yuck" off what I am cleaning. If you are too lazy to make your own, you can often find cleaners for pretty cheap.
Example:Fred Meyers has Seventh Generation products for 15% off. If you signed up for Seventh Generation's newsletter, then you will get coupons in the mail. Use this coupon with the sale and you get it for about half price. Walgreens also carries their products and has good sales on them. This is how I stock up on my cleaners. I will only buy them if I get them on sale and with a coupon. Otherwise I make my own. I try to support companies who are trying to make this world better. Keep up the good work Seventh Generation!
