It's great that the 7th Gen wipes are chlorine-free, but why not take it a step further and make them flushable/biodegradable as well? This way they can be used by cloth and disposable diaper enthusiasts equally since the BMs are supposed to be dumped in the toilet as it is...

I found an alternative: biodegradable, compostable and flushable
I use Swipes Lovin Wipes. They are everything they claim to be: Biodegradable, compostable, flushable, sewer and septic safe. Also they are free of alcohol, chlorine, and dyes, and are also hypo-allergenic. They are available at drugstore.com, so when I buy up to $25 it ships free. I use them after and before intimate moments, but they are safe as make up wipes and even safe for baby bottoms. Finally, a solution!
Biodegradable Baby Wipes
My opinion...best biodegradable baby wipes are Elements naturals (Inego fiber) or Bum Boosa Bamboo Baby Wipes. Skip the green washing.
With some googling I find
With some googling I find at least three other companies already make biodegradable wipes. Elements Naturals, Nature Babycare, and NatureBotts.
It seems to me that if 7gen is really an ethical company and really cares about the environment, they should simply take this product of the market until such time as they can produce a biodegradable one, so it doesn't compete with the REAL (and less well known) green products in this category.
Seriously, lots of people buy these assuming, based on their trust in 7gen's reputation for being green, that they are biodegradable. And while the package does not claim they are, it also does not say they are not.
Non-biodegradable wipes are NOT green
I don't really understand how they can even sell these and think they are being true to their company mission. These things are an ecological abomination. It's rather like selling baby seal pelts killed by hunters who drive hybrid cars.
7gen claims to disclose all ingredients. Interestingly they don't disclose what the cloth of these wipes is made out of.
Flushable not for septic systems
I have done studies on the matter and flushable wipes to not break down like toilet paper in a septic tank and should NEVER be flushed for anyone with a septic tank.
I would like a compostable wipe that would be like the WetOnes Brand Naturals which have no alcohol in them and are plant based. We use them all of the time and they are even safe for use on house pets who need some bum wiping from time to time.
Why not re-useable?
Why doesn't Seventh Gen get into more re-useable products? We should have the choice of either Bio-degradable/flushable wipes and some sort of re-useable cloths with a spray.
100% behind this notion!
YES! This is what 7Th Generation needs to add (or replace with existing)to its product lineup!
i would love a flushable wipe for my preschooler!
I use cloth wipes or eco-friendly(ish) disposable wipes for my 1 year old, but would LOVE to see some flushable wipes for my "almost independent" four year old.
Not so fast?
You should read this first though - turns out that sewage plants still have to pull all these out of the drains as they are not working as advertised...
I completely agree that is
I completely agree that is a great idea! Not only do I use wipes for my 9 month old, but I use them as well. And I feel awful all those wipes just go right into the trash.
I second the idea....we are
I second the idea....we are considering using cloth wipes because of this.
