Environmental Impact of Seventh Generation Products?
Posted April 13th, 2008 by Cj bomarRecently Patagonia began an inward study to trace each component of the clothing they sell and the impact of each on the environment. They publish their findings on their website. Some of it is positive and some not so. But this gives them a realistic look at their products and what must be changed and also give the consumer real information. I guess my question is has Seventh Generation considered this type of study and are you constantly looking for ways to reduce, reuse and eliminate waste of any sort?

Seventh Generation performs life cycle studies of its products using computer software designed for this purpose. Life cycle studies look at the resource requirements and emissions of every step in the production, use, and disposal of a product (cradle-to-cradle or earth-to-earth analysis). It is through these studies that we are able to calculate the Environmental Savings listed on each product, and on this website.
Seventh Generation also works with each of its manufacturing partners to help them understand their environmental impact, and to make improvements over time.
We are presently working to better understand our entire supply chain, starting with the agricultural and mining operations that are the source of materials used in our products, through processing those materials into ingredients, and ending with the products' disposal. We are early in this endeavor, however, and will not have as valuable an instrument as the Patagonia Footprint Chronicles for some time.
