Disposable Diapers vs. Cloth Diapers

Disposable Diapers

Disposable diapers are one of the best conveniences for busy mums. They also mean less washing than if reusable diapers are used and when you are busy and sleep deprived every minute saved is heaven! Disposable diapers keep wetness away from both your baby’s skin and their clothes and so need changing less often than reusable diapers without any discomfort to your baby. They come in a range of sizes and styles to see your child through their baby and toddler years with consideration for their changing needs as they go from a liquid diet to solids, crawling, walking and potty training. You can even now buy biodegradable diapers.

Cloth Diapers

For the traditional or eco mummy then cloth Diapers are the way to go. As long as you are organized about washing them then there need be little stress. There is even evidence that feeling wet pants encourages children to want to use the potty and toilet at a younger age. You can go for the traditional terry towel diaper with safety pins or new painless plastic fasteners or you can go for the new breed of cloth diapers. They have several layers of material so as to be comfortable and keep outer clothes dry and look and fasten much like disposable diapers so no tricky origami skills are needed. Another feature is that you can also buy liners so pooh can come out with he liner and not touch he actual diaper.

And which one You are? :)

Cloth !

Cloth diapers are easy to use, better for babies, better for our planet, and cost effective. After the initial set up fee families can save $1,500 or more per child! We also use cloth wipes which increases the savings.

NEITHER! (Flushable, compostable)

We exclusively use gDiapers. They are a cotton pant with a breathable snap-in liner containing an insert that you take out and flush. Wet ones can be composted in a matter of weeks.

I wish Seventh Generation would get into these, too. As much as I love gDiapers, Seventh Generation has such a great product distribution system. A product like this would compliment their product line well.

Cloth

I am a single mother on a super strict budget.

Before my duaghter was born, I considered the cloth diapers, but was discouraged because of the high start up costs.

After have reactions to several diaper brands, and being afraid of using store brands (which the name brands manufacture) I decided to find a way to use cloth. My inital start up was only $81.00 and I will not turn back. It is no more work that taking out the trash with the disposables, and I don't have nearly as much trash!

Cloth

I used cloth mostly on my children 25 years ago, and now my granddaughter is 100% cloth diaper wearer! I'm proud of my daughter who had to work full-time for the first year, yet still managed to use only cloth diapers and breastfeed. Was it convenient? Not at all. Better for the baby and the environment?
Absolutely!

Cloth

I used paper on kid#1. Cloth on kid2 and kid3. There is no way that it is an equal footprint for cloth vs paper. I have bought most of my "nice" diapers used, and they have plenty of use left.

This is 3 extra loads of laundry a week, we barely notice it.

My set of thristies, goodmamas and bumgenius's have turned my babysitter, my SIL and my cousin, (not to mention coworkers and teenage-date-night-babysitters) over to the cloth side. They're easy, they're cheaper for multiple kids and they help with less garbage to bring to the curb.

Cloth!!!

Cloth dipes are the WAY to go! Whenever I need to put a sposie on my kid, I feel like I am using something of inferior quality. And to be blunt, it's trashy to use sposies. :)
