open-window is my favorite, but yes, when i lived in Florida is was too hot out sometimes, & in Oslo, too cold! BUT... a few minutes in either instance really helps alot! And not to forget incense and aroma-therapy diffusers: use caution with candles & incense/essential oils as all may have a lot of solvents in their make-up, so i try to buy pharmaceutical grade whenever possible. There is a good orange spray out there, found in most health food stores, a bit pricey but lasts a long time: plain old white distilled vinegar, in a small open glass bowl, left in room for several hours to over-night, used to work well for me, & ITS ODOR dissipates quickly once the bowl is later removed.. let us not forget to research/google which PLANTS offer the best indoor air purification: some are significantly more effective than others!....Also a word about hydrogen peroxide: the standard stuff we buy everywhere is laced with processing chemicals i have been led to believe: quite toxic to use as a mouthwash, for example, especially if you still have silver-ish fillings: & i'm sure it was responsible for the quick corrosion of the newer, lower quality metal chrome finishes on bath fixtures, when i began using it as a disinfectant on all my home surfaces: perhaps a quick wipe/rinse/splash followed by water rinse? how long is long enough to work but not corrode? how about the significantly more expensive & potent 'food-grade' hydrogen peroxide? i am sure that the standard type has had a 'bleaching' effect on the towels & tee shirt necklines of my son, battling acne. I don't approve of him using it on his skin but i think teenagers are blogging it has a good effect to use as a cleanser... as per Dr. Hulda Clark ( drclark.net, book "The Cure for All Diseases"), all alcohols are powerfully harmful to our internal systems & highly absorbant through the skin & collect in the tissues & organs, eventually becoming a significant amount of the content of tumors, so please stay away from alcohols: READ LABELS: DO NOT USE HAND SANITIZERS! except the natural herbal ones... anyone suffering from serious illness, like cancer & rheumatoid arthritis, and lots less dramatic, please read up dr. clark & raw food diets & retreats like creative health institute (MICHIGAN), optimum health intitute (san diego & austin), hippocrates health institute (Palm beach, FL) amazing cures for even the folks on the edge of life... we are what we touch, eat & think, HMMMMM?
What if you live in a midwestern state like Wisconsin. In the winter.. like now it's too darn cold or should I say freezing. I would love to find a good product that is safe to the senses and does the trick, especially in winter when everything is closed up tight as a drum. I don't trust these chemical sprays that they sell.. like Renusit.
I have been using Peroxide for years to take stains out of just about anything. It's the best thing for stains. Love it.
The best thing you can do to get nasty smells out of your house is to let Mother Nature take action. Assuming you're not in Florida in the middle of hurricane or mosquito season, open the doors and windows in your house and let the air circulate. Indoor air pollution is much greater than outdoor air pollution and spraying a bunch of crap in your house isn't going to lower the air pollution. If you can, try to get your carpet cleaned professionally by a green company, assuming you have carpeting and not wood or tile floors. Be sure you vacuum your curtains (which hold on to tons of dust and pollutants) once in a while with a HEPA filtered vacuum. Not only will all this improve your indoor air quality, rid you of some serious annoyances, and make your home smell pretty, but it will give you a few hours with a great breeze flowing through your home. Just be sure to turn off the AC!!!
I will help to do anything to get this going. I take shots for rhuematoid arthritis. This stops your imune system. It would be great to have wipes to go and other options.
Hydrogen peroxide works extremely well for cleaning and sanitizing. Vinegar is also a natural disinfectant. Spraying them on a surface has been shown to kill germs.
