Cleaning Out the Cleaners

Getting rid of all the toxic chemical cleaning products hiding under your sink is pretty simple. All you need is a big box and your car keys. Put any cleaner that doesn't tell you everything that's inside it or that contains ingredients you don't recognize or can't pronounce into the box. Put the box inside your car. Drive your car to your nearest hazardous waste collection site (your local solid waste and/or environmental agency can tell you where to go) and hand the box to the attendant.

That's it in a nontoxic nutshell. Just don't pour anything down the drain. The reasons you don't want this stuff in your home are the same reasons you don't want it floating around out in the environment!

I love this!

Your idea is so simple and clear. I'm one of those people who still thinks that I need to use all of the contents before I dispose of the hazardous products. This is just a form of denial. I like your approach much better. It's like a form of cleansing in itself!

Since the hurricane hit

Since the hurricane hit here a few years back, our news stations have reported a few times about the collection sites. As a matter of fact they offer a collection at least twice a year due to all of the rebuilding in the area.
