Bed bugs

The best non-toxic method put forth for eradicating bed bugs seems to be wash everything that is washable and then dry them in a hot dryer. But what about those critters lingering the the crevices of mattresses, suitcases, floorboards, etc?

The best environmentally friendly solution put forth at this time is to call a special pest eradication company to first determine if you have bed bugs, and second to apply heat to those areas where bed bugs are found. The downside: this can be very expensive.

Has it occurred to anyone that they may have a gadget that might work very well in eradicating bed bugs?

What about the lowly handheld hair dryer? Most of us have at least one of those. And most of them get pretty hot! What I wonder is how long would one have to aim the hot air at a site in order to kill the invaders? Of course one would have to not put the gadget against anything flammable, but the heat from a well functioning dryer can travel pretty far and is pretty hot.

What do you think?
