I like this powder detergent but am disappointed that it does not dissolve in cold water like it says on the box. I end up with clumps of detergent in my washing machine after the load has gone through it's cycle. It seems to work much better with the warm wash cycle.

Two disappointments with this product: 1) the powder does not completely dissolve (forms clumps in box), and 2) white residue is left on dark clothes.

The powder forms small, hard clumps that do not seem to dissolve well in cold water, despite the claim that the product is "formulated to work well in cold water" (source: back of 112-oz. package). I have tried to dissolve the powder ahead of time by adding the powdered detergent to an empty glass bottle, adding water to the powder, then shaking the mixture in the closed jar to eliminate the clumps. This didn't work and the clumps remained.

After machine-washing and machine-drying a load of dark clothes, white residue is left on the fabric. This residue is most visible on dark clothes. The fabric also feels slightly stiff. I am not an expert, but it appears that there is still soap left on the clothes. Even when I reduced the amount of detergent to less than 1 scoop for an extra-large load, I still ended up with white residue.

I encourage everyone to go to the environmental working group site (just google in ewg) and ask to see how Seventh Generation ranks in laundry soaps (as well as the other products). I was disappointed that there are still too many dangerous chemicals in this product line. However, the laundry powder ranks high and receives an 'A' score but stores don't seem to carry the powder so purchasing online is the way to go. I remain hopeful that Seventh Generation will continue to work to eliminate dangers in their products. I don't think families should sacrifice the development of their child's endocrine system or expose them to increased risk of cancers. Everytime we purchase a cleaning product we are making those choices!

LOVE the laundry powder - excellent!

HATE the new box design. It won't close properly and I'm always spilling detergent as the lid wont stay open either. Every time I use it, I get more annoyed. This new box design comes at a time when the price increased by over 50% in my area. Please if you're going to increase your prices by so much, at least go back to the useable box design!

I'd been considering purchasing 7th Gen products for awhile now, and when I saw the laundry soap was marked 50% off (natural products don't sell too well in my area, unfortunately).

My first impression when I took the clothes out of the wash was that they smelled clean. They didn't smell like these crazy scents you see from Tide or Gain, they just smelled how clean clothes should smell. And when you're worried about additives in your products, the more simple something smells the more you can relax and know that there's no pesky chemicals.

I washed my clothes in COLD water, something I was a little leery about doing. But the soap worked wonders on my darks and multi's.

The only reason I give this a four star review is because I was missing a scoop in my box (something I read in the FAQs said this is apparently a common problem) and I had to put a trash bag over the box because it doesn't shut all the way. Normally I wouldn't mind but I have two very curious cats who love anything lavender.

I would highly recommend this product to all consumers. Don't underestimate the cleaning power of baking soda!
